Overland camper

The term 'overland camper' refers to a vehicle that is designed for journeys over land that are considerably more demanding than a two week trip to Spain but less demanding than exploring the wilderness of Africa or pioneering a new route through Alaska.

Travelling with your own home on wheels; solid, robust, reliable and durable transport. Having your own bed, stuff and of course coffee from our traditional coffee roaster Wackers in Frankfurt am Main. Our mountain bikes to explore the direct vicinity and do some work-out.The key words are reliability, durability and capacity.

The term "cabin" is used for part that we live in and the term "cab" for the part in which we sit to drive it. The bit with wheels, engine, and fuel tanks is called "chassis". If I use the term "truck", I usually refer to the cab and chassis.

As spare parts for the truck and its mechanical components may be hard to get in remote areas, the reliability of the chassis, engine and drivetrain is essential. The cabin and its interior must be build with durable and quality materials to withstand hours of driving on poor and dirt roads. Our journeys require sufficient capacity for fuel, water, electrical power, food and clothing.

It should be functional with modern comfort without getting "luxury" and we want to be connected to the world via internet!

The truck

We have started our project! We found an Iveco Eurofire 135E24W which  will be turned into a solid and reliable basis for our overland camper.

The cabin

Aluminium, GRP  or a plywood cabin, we still don't know. All have their pros and cons. In this section you will read more about it.

Technical

This section is about domestic systems such as power supply (solar, batteries, chargers), water, heating, communication & internet.
